I am currently in my 4th year of International Development at the University of Waterloo. Before completing my degree, a 8-month placement is required. This component is what brought me to my mandate location, Matara, Sri Lanka. During the 8-months I will be working as a Gender Equality Officer for the organization, Institute for Development of Community Strengths, flagship program known as the Women Entrepreneurship Program. The program aims to increase the income of self-employed women in the Southern region through micro financing and business development. As a gender advisor, my tasks include organizing gender equality workshops, improving the current gender policy, providing economic empowerment tools for women, and much more. Alongside my passion for development, is my interest in legal studies and environmental sustainability.
